Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has advocated for the prosecution of individuals involved in electoral fraud across Nigeria.
In a statewide broadcast on Monday, Fintiri expressed concern over the premature declaration of his opponent as the winner in the last election, emphasizing that such actions should not go unpunished.
While acknowledging the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) impartial conduct during the previous year’s elections, Fintiri strongly criticized the suspended resident electoral commissioner for Adamawa, Hudu Ari-Yunusa.

He condemned Ari-Yunusa’s suspension by INEC after he allegedly usurped the function of the returning officer and prematurely declared a winner.
Fintiri stated, “As for those who connived with the REC to make us pass through those democratically embarrassing moments, I want to assure you once again, that we owe it a duty to prosecute all of them according to the dictates of the law.
This is the only way we can protect our electoral process and democratic culture from undue abuse.”
He emphasized the importance of prosecuting individuals involved in electoral fraud to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process and democratic values.
Hudu Ari-Yunusa had declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the election, Senator Aishatu Ahmed (Binani), as the winner while collation was ongoing. He was subsequently suspended by INEC and is currently facing charges related to his actions.
In his first official address to the people of Adamawa after his recent Supreme Court victory, Fintiri described the favorable judgment as motivation for him and his government to serve the people better.
He called on all Adamawa residents to join him in this endeavor, emphasizing the need for unity and cooperation to overcome challenges and build a better society.
Fintiri urged everyone with Adamawa’s best interests at heart to set aside differences and work towards a common goal for the state’s progress.
