A section of the leadership of the Adamawa State chapter of the Labour Party (LP) convened on Saturday with organized labor and other stakeholders in an effort to mend a lingering rift within the party’s leadership.
The meeting, called by the state executive committee of the party chaired by Christopher Nicholas, aimed to address the recent division within the party.
However, a segment of the leadership led by the local government chairmen did not attend, having passed a vote of no confidence in the Christopher Nicholas-led committee last week.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting at Labour House, Yola, the chairman of the party’s state executive committee emphasized that the gathering was not only about mediating the party’s apparent rift but also about discussing the party’s health and its preparation for upcoming ward, local government, and state congresses.
Regarding the absence of the aggrieved local government chairmen, Nicholas stated, “Our party remains one.
We are just seeking one full house devoid of any rancor; otherwise, the local government chairmen in question cannot, in all honesty, be taken seriously.”
Nasiru Babale, representing the organized labor at the meeting, expressed disappointment in the aggrieved members’ decision not to attend, emphasizing the need for unity.
Babale criticized the way the local government chairmen met at a hotel to announce the sack of the Christopher Nicholas executive committee, urging them to follow due process.
“As far as organized labor is concerned, there is no issue in the state Labour Party again,” Babale concluded.
