The Caretaker Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ondo State, Wole Ademoyegun, has expressed optimism that the adoption of the ADC by major opposition coalition forces will significantly strengthen the party’s position within the state’s political landscape.
Speaking on Thursday, Ademoyegun described the development as a major boost that would help entrench a credible opposition in Ondo State — a move he said is crucial for the state’s growth and the country’s democracy at large.
His remarks come on the heels of the official adoption of the ADC on Wednesday by a coalition of prominent political leaders, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and former Senate President David Mark.

The coalition aims to use the ADC as its platform to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
In Ondo State, several key political figures have also joined the coalition, including former State PDP Chairman Tola Alabere, former Senator Nicholas Tofowomo, and the 2024 governorship candidate of the NNPP, Gbenga Edema, among others.
Ademoyegun reaffirmed the party’s commitment to reclaiming its place as a strong and influential force within the state’s political space.
“Our capability to provide credible opposition remains steadfast, and we will collaborate to build a party that embodies the principles of good governance,” he said. “This is in stark contrast to the current challenges facing our nation, where good governance is often lacking.”
Also speaking, Myson Nejo, the ADC gubernatorial candidate in the November 16, 2024 election, said the party would prioritize democratic ethics and ensure every member is treated with dignity and respect.
“With ADC coming third in the last governorship election, the party will provide a platform where everyone can participate and contribute to its growth,” Nejo stated. “Democratic values and inclusivity will remain our guiding principles.”
The new coalition is expected to galvanize opposition voices across the state and the country as political activities intensify ahead of 2027.
