The National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Bolaji Abdullahi, has expressed concern that the 2027 general elections may be threatened by logistical, security and economic challenges.
Abdullahi said his concerns stem from what he described as shortcomings on the part of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, as well as the prevailing insecurity and economic hardship in the country.

Speaking in an interview with The Sun, the ADC spokesman warned that insecurity could prevent elections from holding in some parts of Nigeria, while worsening economic conditions might discourage many Nigerians from participating in the polls.
He also alleged that delays in INEC’s procurement process could affect the commission’s preparedness for the elections.
“There is so much procurement INEC usually embarks on. A lot of them are offshore, outside the country. If by now INEC has not received funding for those procurements or has not been able to do those procurements, then the election is threatened. That is my number one fear,” he said.
Abdullahi added that he was worried the electoral body might not be adequately prepared for the elections.
“I am worried that INEC may not be ready for the election, whether deliberately or inadvertently. I have serious fear that INEC may not be ready for the election,” he said.
He further alleged that there could be attempts to manipulate the electoral process.
“They may rig the election and tell people to go to court, thinking that politicians will go to court, and that they will live happily thereafter,” he alleged.
INEC and the Federal Government have not responded to the claims at the time of filing this report.
