Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has directed former All Progressives Congress, APC, local government chairmen and councillors to immediately vacate all local government secretariats across the state, declaring their continued occupation illegal and in blatant disregard of court rulings.
In a statewide broadcast on Monday, Adeleke said the affected officials no longer have any legal authority to remain in the offices, having been removed through valid judicial processes.

The governor recalled that the Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo nullified the local government elections conducted by the APC in November 2022, a decision which, he said, was upheld by the Court of Appeal on February 10 and reaffirmed on June 13, 2025.
According to him, in compliance with the court judgments, the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission, OSIEC, conducted fresh local government elections on February 22, 2025.
Adeleke stated that the newly elected chairmen and councillors were sworn in the following day and are the only legitimate occupants of the local government secretariats in the state.
He further noted that the former APC officials had admitted in their court filings that their tenure elapsed in October 2025, adding that their attempts to seek tenure extension only underscored the absence of a lawful mandate.
The governor accused the former officials of forcefully occupying the secretariats with alleged backing of armed police personnel, purportedly acting on the directives of former governor, Gboyega Oyetola.
He also condemned reports of assaults and harassment of local government workers attempting to resume duties, describing the incidents as an abuse of power and a threat to democratic governance.
Adeleke called on residents to remain calm, assuring them that his administration would continue to uphold court judgments, restore legality at the grassroots, and protect the rights of citizens.
