Caretaker Committee Chairman for Ede North Local Government Jimoh Oyekanmi has passed away, according to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Osun PDP Chairman Sunday Bisi confirmed the tragic death of the council chief.
The party has also announced a three-day time of mourning and a cessation of party operations.

Bisi lamented Oyekanmi’s untimely death, remembering him as a hard worker who took on whatever responsibility given to him.
It is with great sadness that the Osun State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party must report the passing of the Caretaker Committee Chairman of Ede North Local Government, who passed away unexpectedly on the evening of Tuesday, October 10, 2023.
“The PDP is having a hard time accepting the chairman’s death. He was at his office till the small hours of the morning, and he seemed perfectly healthy and happy. It was quite uncomfortable for us as a family to accept Allah’s (God’s) final decision about the party’s attendance.
Without sugarcoating anything, Jimoh Oyekanmi was an essential cog in the motor of the ship’s success. He worked hard and never complained about the responsibilities given to him on the team.
Party flags across the state will be lowered to half-staff for three days in honor of Alhaji Oyekanmi while members “battle through the rude shock of Alhaji Oyekanmi’s death,” according to a statement released by the party.
Ademola Adeleke, governor of Osun State, expressed his sadness at the passing of the council chief, calling it “devastating.”
Adeleke added that reliable assistance in providing sound government has been withheld from the state.
In a statement released by his spokeswoman Olawale Rasheed, the governor said, “Alhaji Jimoh was a politician with a purpose, always prioritizing the good of all above his personal interest in any situation.” Alhaji Jimoh shown unfathomable discipline and selflessness during the fight for the Imole government to be established.
I knew him as more than just a member of the Adeleke political dynasty. He was always there for you and incredibly dependable.
A powerful grassroots mobilizer for our great party, the PDP, in Ede North, he left an indelible mark on Osun politics. I am deeply saddened by the passing of a man who has had such a significant impact in Ede town and the PDP.
My deepest sympathies go out to his loved ones, the residents of Ede North, the members of the PDP, and anybody else who was affected by his passing. I pray that the Almighty God would give his loved ones strength to deal with this unimaginable loss.
