As the race for the governorship election in Ondo State gains momentum, Sola Ebiseni, the Secretary-General of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, has announced his intention to run for the state’s top position. Ebiseni emphasized that his deep understanding of the state and its people makes him the best candidate for the job.
Ahead of the November 16, 2024, election, Ebiseni highlighted the significance of the upcoming polls for the state.
He noted that all previous governors of Ondo State were influenced by the principles of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, an influential figure in Yoruba politics.
Speaking with journalists, Ebiseni, a lawyer and former commissioner in the state, stressed the importance of understanding the state’s people and territory for its development.
He called for urgent economic diversification, advocating for reduced dependence on federal allocations as a means to free the state from economic constraints.
Ebiseni stated, “Our state has had the rare privilege of being governed by governors who are not only intellectually suave but also grounded in their chosen careers and thoroughly bred in the ideology of the Awolowo school of thought.
The development of our state also requires being fully acquainted with the territory and the people.”
He added, “Such knowledge affords the new manager the opportunity to determine the location of resources, create wealth therefrom, and fairly allocate them without undue concentration in one or a few places.”
