AFRICAN UNION CONSULTATIVE MEETING ON THE SIGNING AND RATIFICATION OF THE AU CONVENTION FOR THE PROTECTION AND ASSITANCE TO INTERNALLY DISPLACED PERSONS IN AFRICA – KAMPALA CONVENTION

Who: Department of Political Affairs

Purpose: The purpose of the Accra meeting, among others, is to promote the signing and ratification of the Kampala Convention among Member States of the African Union that are yet to do so, and to identify challenges encountered by Member States in ratifying the Convention, as well as provide possible solutions to these challenges.

Expected Results: Enhanced awareness among members of government, officials from ministries and state institutions dealing on displacement issues

Member States are supported in ensuring signature and ratification of the Convention

Create a framework for dialogue and exchange with both state and non-state actors in order to identify common challenges and obstacles to the ratification of the Convention.

Participants: Parliamentarians and high officials dealing with legal and displacement matters in AU Member States, Representatives from National Human Rights Institutions and National Agencies dealing with displacement issues.
