Nigeria’s Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadiq Abubakar, has read the riot act to top commanders of the Nigerian Air Force to ensure strict adherence to military ethics in all their operations.
He also reminded them that the NAF under his watch would deal with disciplinary issues in line with his vision to reposition the service.
Air Marshal Abubakar made the remark while speaking at the Chief of Air Staff’s Retreat with senior officers in Abuja on Friday.
According to the Air Chief, a force that was truly professional would know what was expected of it in dealing with emerging security challenges, adding that the commanders of the service must also know how to function well in the face of current economic realities in the country.
He said, “Our vision is about repositioning the Nigerian Air Force to become a highly professional and disciplined air force, through capacity building initiatives for efficient and effective employment of air power in response to our national security challenges.
“The key words in this vision is about professionalism; it is about having a disciplined professional force, a professional force that will act within the provisions of the law, a professional force that will protect the rights of citizens, a professional force that will do what is expected of it in dealing with our security challenges whether in the North East or in other parts of the country.
“We must go back to our ethics as military personnel; a professional force will deal with disciplinary issues promptly. A professional force will have the knowledge and skills required to function effectively and efficiently, especially in the face of the current economic realities”.
