Barely 24 hours after their removal as Majority Leader and Chief Whip of the Edo State House of Assembly, Hon. Charity Aiguobarueghian and Hon. Yekini Idaiye have been announced as the new Minority Leader and Minority Whip, respectively.
InfoStride News reports that the lawmakers were among three principal officers removed from their positions during plenary on Monday, March 7, 2025.
Hon. Natasha Osawaru Irobosa, who served as Deputy Majority Leader, was also removed and replaced.

The affected lawmakers—Aiguobarueghian (Ovia North-East I), Irobosa (Egor), and Idaiye (Akoko-Edo I)—are all members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
They were replaced with APC lawmakers: Hon. Ibhamawu Jonathan Aigbokhan (Esan West) as Majority Leader, Hon. Addeh Emakhu Isibor (Esan North-East I) as Deputy Majority Leader, and Hon. Lecky Hussein Mustapha (Etsako West I) as Chief Whip.
However, at an emergency plenary session held on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, announced the nomination of Aiguobarueghian and Idaiye as the new principal officers of the PDP caucus in the Assembly.
Agbebaku read a letter dated April 8, 2025, signed by Dr. Anthony Aziegbemi, Chairman of the Edo PDP caretaker committee, which conveyed the nominations.
The letter titled ‘Nomination for Principal Officers’ stated:
“After due consultation, the following are nominated to fill the following positions: Hon. Charity Aiguobarueghian as Minority Leader and Hon. Yekini Idaiye as Minority Whip.”
