Political activist and co-founder of the #BringBackOurGirls campaign, Aisha Yesufu, has expressed support for the imposition of capital punishment on individuals involved in election rigging.
Yesufu made her position known in a post shared on her verified X (formerly Twitter) handle on Friday, aligning with Abia State Governor Alex Otti’s recent call for severe sanctions against those engaged in electoral malpractice.
Governor Otti had earlier stated that anyone planning to rig elections in Nigeria should “first write their will,” a remark that has stirred nationwide debate.
Reacting to the statement, Yesufu wrote:
“You see that thing that is reported that Alex Otti said, ‘anybody planning to rig election should first write their will,’ is the mentality Nigerians should have!
I have repeatedly said anyone that rigs election should be treated as a terrorist.”
The activist, known for her vocal stance on governance and electoral integrity, maintained that election rigging undermines democracy and should attract the same level of punishment reserved for acts of terrorism.
