News The Nigerian Government has designated the Akure Airport in Ondo State as a perishable cargo terminal to create access to international markets for industrialists and farmers in the State.
This was disclosed by the Minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah during her working visit to the State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko.
While briefing the Governor on the purpose of her visit to the State, Stella Oduah explained that the project is part of the Federal Government’s initiative towards facilitating massive industrialization in the State to curb urban migration supported by the existence of under-development in the rural areas of the country.
She averred that as part of the Federal Government’s plan to bring rapid growth to the nation’s economy, the initiative has a great and effective economic benefit to the nation. According to her, the three places selected for the perishable cargo terminal projects are Akure, Jalingo and Benue. She also noted that development would be enhanced in the three States where the terminals are sited.
The Minister, who described the aviation industry as pivotal to the nation’s economic growth, expressed the readiness of her Ministry to facilitate more domestic flights from the Akure Airport to other parts of the country, stressing that this would further boost the country’s transportation system.
She commended Olusegun Mimiko’s administration for the varied developmental programmes engaged across the State, pointing out that the presence of the perishable cargo terminal in the State would further encourage influx of people for economic activities.
In his response, the Ondo State Governor thanked the Federal Government for choosing the State for the project, promising that his administration would take necessary steps to ensure success for the project.
He equally described the choice of Ondo State for the project as a right step by the Federal Government for its being one of the veritable food baskets of the nation. He avowed that the people of the State would utilize the opportunity to further develop the human and natural resources which abound in the State.
Olusegun Mimiko also assured his government’s support for the development of necessary facilities in the Akure Airport, in order to make the place more viable and safe for domestic flights.
In another development, the State Governor and his cabinet members inspected the perishable cargo terminal building as well as the domestic building under construction at the Akure Airport.

I don’t know about his performance since he assumed the post of a governor over there. He has to improve
