Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has officially announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring unwavering support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
The announcement was made on Friday during a ceremony held at the State House in Uyo, the state capital.
Governor Eno stated that he had long admired President Tinubu’s leadership style since his days as governor of Lagos State, describing him as a visionary and focused leader.

“As a young professional working in Lagos while he was the governor, I have always admired his style of leadership—with focus and vision,” Eno said.
He reaffirmed his support for Tinubu’s administration and second-term ambition, stressing that the president deserves the opportunity to complete his reform agenda.
“I have no doubt this vigour and renewed energy is being applied to the nation today. I have no apology whatsoever for supporting President Tinubu for a second term in office, to complete the reforms he has started,” the governor added.
The defection marks a significant political development in Akwa Ibom State, traditionally a PDP stronghold, and is expected to have ripple effects across the state’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.
