Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has signaled his intention to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), citing the need to align the state with the federal government.
Speaking during a town hall meeting in Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency on Wednesday, the governor declared that “it is time to move,” following what he described as extensive consultations across the state.
“We’re progressively moving forward, linking Akwa Ibom to the center. And I know you’re going with us. Are you going with us, so we can connect to the center?” he asked the gathering.

Eno further explained, “We thank you for your support. I’ve gone round to consult and so we have done enough consultation. The time has come that we will move. And we will go to where God is leading us.”
Urging the people not to be fearful about the possible political shift, the governor emphasized his belief in President Bola Tinubu’s leadership and future vision.
“Do not be afraid. Believe in us. Believe in President Bola Tinubu because the future is bright. We are already a minority state in Nigeria. If we come again and start breaking ourselves into pieces, we become the minority of the minorities and cannot get anything,” he said.
Governor Eno has consistently spoken in glowing terms about President Tinubu and his administration. In April, he had hinted that the PDP no longer had the capacity to carry him to the “next destination,” raising speculation about a looming defection.
The latest comments have further fueled talks of a major political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.
