Alexis Sanchez signing for Manchester United is Ed Woodward’s most terrible decision as executive vice-chairman, according to ESPN FC pundit, Craig Burley.
The Chilean joined Manchester United from Arsenal in January 2018 in a swap deal that involved Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
Alexis instantly became the highest paid player in the Red Devils’ history, earning a rumored £500,000-a-week plus bonuses.
But, Sanchez’s time at Old Trafford has been nothing to write home about, and he has netted just three goals in 32 Premier League appearances and he has rarely stayed fit.
Burley revealed that it would be harsh to say Sanchez joining United is the worst transfer of all time but it is surely a bad decision from Ed Woodward.
His words, “I’ve talked about Mesut Ozil being at times a £300,000-a-week headache for Unai Emery, and he has been this season,”
“But what the hell is this guy now for Manchester United?
“And by the way shouldn’t the picture behind us be a still of Ed Woodward?
“As the worst chief executive-making football decision, maybe not money decisions, for his owners the Glazers, but football-making decision.
“What did we name this? ‘The worst transfer of all time’, we see the graphic at the bottom [of the screen].
“It’s a bit harsh I suppose, because there are a few.
“It could get better, it might get better next year, I don’t think so.
“It’s almost like he’s got to a point where the energy is not there anymore.
“That half a yard to get away from somebody, drop a shoulder, lose a marker, he hasn’t got that.”
