The political drama playing out in Adamawa State took a different dimension yesterday as the acting governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri vowed to punish the impeached governor of the state, Murtala Nyako, who allegedly squandered the states resources to the tune of about N82billion.
Fintiri, who made the remark during a PDP stakeholders meeting which took place at government house, Yola, said Nyako’s punishment will serve as a deterrent to any leader with an insatiable appetite to steal public funds.
The acting governor said he will inaugurate the panel of inquiry, which will look into the financial misdeeds of the former governor on Monday, to unravel the circumstances under which the Nyako administration plunged the state into abysmal decay.
Fintiri noted that the main reason for instituting the panel is for the government and the people of Adamawa to be able to recover the stolen resources of the state, so that they can be put to better use.
“We are going to ensure that all Adamawa funds in private accounts are retrieved back into the state coffers. We shall also ensure that all properties acquired with Adamawa resources are also retrieved, so that their values can be channelled into Adamawa State resources”, he said.
