A factional National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party (LP), Dr. Abayomi Arabambi, has warned Peter Obi, the party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, to stop attacking President Bola Tinubu over his diploma from Chicago State University, indicating that the crisis rocking the LP shows no signs of abating.
On Friday, in what appeared to be a public defense of Tinubu, Arabambi requested his party’s presidential candidate Peter Obi to cease mocking Tinubu over the release of his academic records by the Chicago State University (CSU).
A lot of people in Nigeria are upset over the release of Tinubu’s academic record because they believe he lied about his credentials to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) before the election and should therefore step down as president.

In response to the news, Peter Obi had challenged Tinubu to reveal his genuine identity, saying that the scandal painted all Nigerians in a negative light.
However, Obi’s position has been criticized by some, most recently by the top members of his own party, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), and the White House.
Arabambi called Obi’s press conference about the CSU saga “needless and unwarranted” during his Friday address to the global press in Abuja.
The LP factional spokesperson advised Obi not to criticize Tinubu and instead let the Supreme Court of Nigeria rule on the subject.
Arabambi claimed that it would be annoying for Obi to turn to self-help in light of the pending appeal at the Apex Court because Obi, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has surrendered to Supreme Court jurisdiction.
Specifically, he said that Obi had gone too far in claiming that all Nigerians are being treated like common criminals around the world because of Tinubu’s certificate issue.
“We have been watching with keen interest the various reactions and mudslingings on the unsubstantiated allegations of forgery in respect to the Chicago State University Diploma Certificate of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Arabambi said.
While we recognize Peter Obi’s right to express opinion, he should act in accordance with the Nigerian Constitution; after all, he who comes to equity must do so with clean hands.
It is clear that the former 2023 Presidential Candidate for the LP is attempting to conduct war against the President of Nigeria by intimidation in order to create concussion, and so the role he has performed on behalf of the main opposition party is very condemnable.
We think Mr. Peter OBI should have let the Supreme Court rule on the legitimacy of the questions brought by the President’s certificate saga before resorting to “Media Tragedy, rascality, and comedy.”
Peter Obi’s academic certificate from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) bears a name that differs from the name on the former governor’s NYSC certificate and his WAEC Certificate, which he revealed while speaking about his role as National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party.
Furthermore, he claimed that a “second look and curious check on Peter Obi’s 1978 School Certificate results posted hurriedly” by Obi’s former aide Mr. Oseloka Paul “shows the name Obi Gregory Onwubuasi and not Peter Onwubuasi Obi.”
I was a part of the group that did the screening for him,” he claimed. He attended University of Nigeria Nsukka and completed his youth service on the EC9 form we provided him with, but he only included his high school diploma with his final submission.
Something doesn’t add up, and I feel compelled to state that he is aware that the name on his NYSC certificate does not match the name the school provided for mobilization.
I have no idea what he hopes to accomplish by traveling to this place. You are now publicly challenging someone to come forward and divulge this man’s genuine name, despite the fact that his petition and supporting filings are already before the Supreme Court.
Everything between him and Abure in Asaba was shrouded in secrecy at the time, so none of us know who Peter Obi really is even within the Labour Party.
Obi’s name is spelled differently on his National Youth Service Certificate and his undergraduate degree from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, but he was able to get away with it because “we were rushing then because we had just a day to do our presidential primary and that was why he was able to get away with it,” according to a source.
LP presidential candidate Obi was warned by Arabambi, who presented many documents submitted by Obi under different names, to avoid actions and words that could cause disaffection in the country.
He disputed accusations that the Presidency was funding his opposition to Obi and said that all the Labour Party wants is for Obi to follow the law in his pursuit of the petition against Tinubu.
