South Africa beat Kenya 2-0 to win the 2013 COSAFA U-20 Cup tournament in the final on Saturday (December 14) in Maseru, Lesotho.
Goals from Ayabulela Magqwaka in the 32nd minute and a cheeky long range effort from Siyanda Ngubo gave Amajita a deserved victory and gold in the exciting youth tournament.
After initially struggling against the Kenyans, who were guest participants at the tournament, Shakes Mashaba’s charges started to hit their stride and long before Maqqwaka’s opener with a clean header from a corner kick, Amajita had already shown their intent.
With a lone goal lead into the second half, Amajita maintained the momentum in search of more goals.
On 69 minutes, Ngubo doubled the lead with a chip past on-rushing Kenya goalie Peter Odhiambo and take the game beyond their opponents.
It was the fifth title for the Amajita in the regional championship.
Meanwhile, Angola defeated Zimbabwe 2-0 to secure bronze with Manuel Alfonso and Joao Capemba on target for the Junior Palancas Negras.
Alfonso was also named the top scorer of the tournament with six goals.
