Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has declared that he has no formidable challenger in the forthcoming November 8 governorship election, stating that his re-election bid has become a consensus across the state’s senatorial zones.
Speaking on Saturday at an endorsement rally organised by stakeholders of the Anambra Central Senatorial Zone in Awka, Soludo dismissed other contenders as individuals merely seeking financial gain rather than serious political engagement.
This rally comes weeks after a similar endorsement was held in Otuocha by stakeholders from Anambra North, who also declared Soludo’s candidacy a consensus.

Addressing the crowd, Soludo highlighted the existing zoning arrangement in the state, which began with former governor Peter Obi from the Central Zone. He explained that after Obi’s tenure, power rotated to the North, where Willie Obiano served for eight years, before moving to the South, currently occupied by Soludo.
“We have an unbroken zoning formula in Anambra. After the South completes its turn, power returns to the Central Zone,” the governor stated.
He added: “Anyone contesting against me from the South is simply disrupting the arrangement and extending the South’s hold on power beyond the agreed period. Four more years for Soludo ensures a smooth transition back to the Central Zone, but if someone else from the South wins, it would mean another eight years and delay the turn of the Central.”
Soludo claimed most of his opponents were not in the race to win but to solicit donations.
“We know some of them are not serious. They are going around telling politicians and ministers, ‘Support me, I’m contesting.’ They are raising funds, not contesting to govern. We have not even started our campaign or formed a council, yet some people are busy lobbying.”
He reiterated that the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), his party, remains dominant in Anambra: “APGA is Anambra and Anambra is APGA. The real progressives in this state are aligned, and we are targeting at least 90 percent victory in the Central Zone.”
Soludo also disclosed that he has officially relocated to the Anambra Light House City, the new Government House, from where he intends to continue delivering development projects.
“You haven’t seen anything yet. We’re just getting started,” he said.
Several prominent figures at the event, including former aviation minister Osita Chidoka, lawyer Okey Muo-Aroh, student leaders, market union executives, and community representatives, pledged their support for the governor.
A communiqué read by the Deputy Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Chukwuma Okoye, formally endorsed Soludo on behalf of the entire Anambra Central Senatorial Zone.
