The crisis in the Anambra State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) may have deepened.

InfoStride News reports that the minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige was recently sacked as leader of the party by a state executive loyal to Senator Andy Uba.

The state executive named Uba the new leader of the party. This happened in a stakeholders’ meeting held in Abuja, a meeting which was held simultaneously with another, being chaired by Dr Ngige.

On Thursday, Uba and some members of the Anambra APC touched down in a private jet at the Anambra International Cargo and Passenger Airport for a Stakeholders’ meeting of the party. Ngige had also arrived the airport in a presidential jet, but Ngige’s mission in Anambra was different.

He shunned the Anambra APC meeting, and headed straight to the palace of the traditional ruler of Awka kingdom, where he was bestowed with the chieftaincy title of Onyilimmagba of Awka kingdom.

An APC chieftain, who spoke to newsmen, said the party took time in a private session that was not covered by journalists to marshal out ways of ensuring that Ngige was caged, just as they blamed him for being the reason the party has lost governorship elections for successive elections now.

The source said: “Uba (Andy) is out to teach Ngige a lesson. From the way things are going, he may even be sanctioned, because Andy is using all the contacts he can muster, to ensure that Ngige does not continue as leader of the party.”

However, in an earlier reaction, media aide to Dr Ngige, Mr Nwachukwu Ngige had described Uba and his co-travellers as tenants in the APC house.

He said most of those rooting against Ngige were people he helped to find their footing in the party, and people who he described as tenants, adding that they can never sack a landlord.
