The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Anambra State has elected Dave Akunyili as its Acting Chairman.
He takes the place of Felix Chukwurah, who was kicked out of the party for alleged anti-party conduct.
Izuchukwu Onwuekelu, the NNPP’s Southeast Zonal Secretary, oversaw the Awka event while Alhaji Aliyu Kwankwaso, the party’s acting Secretary in Enugu State, was there as a witness.
Onwuekelu added that Akunyili was unanimously chosen by the party faithful in the state, including state executive members, local government party chairmen and other stakeholders.
The National Working Committee (NWC) would have to approve his appointment as interim chairman, he stated.
Having a state chairman is an effort to harmonize party institutions in Anambra, which was acknowledged by the party’s national leadership.
“The turnout of party stakeholders and faithful shows that they are supportive and loyal to the growth of the party under the leadership of Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso and the National Chairman, Alhaji Abba Kawu Alli,” he said.
After being nominated as Acting Chairman, Akunyili addressed the party faithful and vowed his continued dedication to strengthening the NNPP and freeing the people of Anambra State.
