The All Progressives Congress (APC) has reiterated that Abdullahi Ganduje, the former governor of Kano State, remains its national chairman.
Felix Morka, the National Publicity Secretary, affirmed this position in an interview on Arise Television monitored by the media.
Morka stated that the ruling party would not adhere to the initial court order confirming Ganduje’s suspension as national chairman.
He explained that the party has not received any summons regarding the restraining order against Ganduje and has thrown its support behind the recent ruling of the Kano Federal High Court calling for a stay of the order.
The recent political developments in Kano took a new turn when a Federal High Court, presided over by Justice A.M Liman, halted Ganduje’s purported suspension by his ward executives in Dawakin Tofa Local Government area of the state.
The ruling came after Ganduje filed an ex parte motion seeking to enforce his fundamental right to a fair hearing.
The respondents in the application include the Nigerian Police, Department of State Services, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and nine other individuals.
In response to the ruling, Morka stated that it was the right decision, noting that those who orchestrated Ganduje’s suspension were not recognized members of the party.
He stated, “The order issued by the first court was very disturbing for some reasons.
First, the plaintiffs who purportedly filed that action are not recognized members of our party and therefore shouldn’t have the locus standi to invoke the authority of the court to make any such order.
Secondly, every lawyer in this country is aware that from the Supreme Court up to the NJC, there is this cautiousness that judges don’t make orders that are far-reaching in effect on an ex parte motion or application.”
