The All Progressives Congress (APC) has pledged to conduct a free, fair, and transparent primary election to select its candidate for the November 11 governorship election in Ondo State.
Deputy National Organising Secretary, Nze Duru, made this commitment on Saturday in Abuja as the party concluded the submission of Expression of Interest and Nomination forms by aspirants.
“We assure aspirants that the party is interested and desirous of conducting a free, fair, transparent primary election in Ondo State,” Duru stated.
The primary election is scheduled to hold on April 20, 2024, with sixteen aspirants already having picked forms for the contest.
Duru highlighted that the formal closure of the submission marked the first step in electing the party’s flagbearer, with the next step being the screening of aspirants on April 11 and April 12, followed by the primary election.
He assured that aspirants would be divided into groups for the screening to ensure a smooth process.
Additionally, Duru urged all aspirants to congratulate the eventual party candidate, emphasizing the need for unity within the party.
He cited the recent primary election in Edo State as a reference point for the APC’s democratic process, noting that despite disagreements with the outcome, party members came together to promote peace.
