Barrister Alphonsus Eba, the chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River State, has emphasized that Governor Bassey Otu, the successor to former Governor Prof. Ben Ayade, is not witch-hunting his predecessor.
Eba made this statement in response to ongoing efforts by the state House of Assembly to recover alleged stolen government properties.
Eba, in an interview with journalists in Calabar, praised Ayade for his role in securing Otu’s gubernatorial victory, stating that Otu holds Ayade in high regard and would not allow any form of interference in their relationship.

He also assured that the APC, under his leadership, would not allow anyone to disrupt the bond between the two governors.
Addressing concerns of witch-hunting, Eba strongly objected to the term, emphasizing that there is no witch-hunt.
He clarified that the recovery of government properties, including heavy-duty tractors and a hotel in Abuja, which were reportedly sold under dubious circumstances, is about reclaiming state assets and not a witch-hunt against Ayade or his administration.
Eba affirmed the state House of Assembly’s authority to recover these properties, asserting that fraud would not be condoned under any circumstances.
He urged caution in using terms like “stolen” in reference to the recovered properties, emphasizing that they were government assets found at government construction sites.
