Ugwumba Uche Nwosu, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Chief of Staff to the Governor of Imo State, has called for the implementation of a reward system to promote excellence among Nigerian ministers.
Nwosu emphasized the need for President Bola Tinubu to recognize and reward the best-performing ministers in his administration, while also advocating for the dismissal of non-performing ministers.
During a media interaction in Abuja, Nwosu highlighted the importance of assessing the performance of ministers, especially as President Tinubu’s administration approaches its one-year mark on May 29, 2024.

He suggested that ministers who excel in their duties should be honored with national awards as a form of recognition.
Nwosu praised the efforts of President Tinubu’s administration in various sectors, including infrastructural development, urban renewal in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), finance, and the solid minerals sector.
He commended ministers such as Nyesom Wike (FCT), Umahi (Works), Wale Edun (Finance), and others for their notable achievements.
However, Nwosu also criticized certain ministries for their perceived lack of performance.
He singled out the Ministry of Youths, suggesting that it needs to be restructured to address the issues affecting young people, considering that Nigeria’s population is largely youthful.
He also expressed dissatisfaction with the Ministry of Information, stating that it should be more proactive in disseminating information about government activities, especially during challenging times like fuel scarcity.
Furthermore, Nwosu raised concerns about the power sector, particularly the recent 300% electricity tariff increment, which he believes should be reversed to support medium and small-scale industries.
In conclusion, Nwosu reiterated the importance of holding ministers accountable for their performance, stating that those who fail to deliver should be relieved of their duties to ensure effective governance and restore public confidence in the government.
