Garus Gololo, a prominent figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC), has urged President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the ongoing political turmoil in Benue State.
Gololo made this plea during a press conference held in Kaduna on Sunday.
Gololo specifically called on President Tinubu to exert his influence on the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, urging him to rein in his political allies and address the escalating crisis in the state.

Gololo accused Akume of exacerbating the situation for his personal gain and called for his intervention to allow Governor Hyacinth Alia to focus on delivering good governance to the people.
Highlighting the origins of the conflict, Gololo pointed to a disagreement over the speakership of the Benue House of Assembly, where Akume’s wife was reportedly vying for the position against the governor’s stance.
The National Assembly caucus from Benue State, affiliated with the APC and believed to be aligned with Akume, had previously criticized Governor Alia’s leadership style, accusing him of marginalizing party members and running the state government in a manner they deemed “dictatorial.”
Senator Titus Zam, representing Benue North-West and leader of the NASS caucus, expressed concerns that the governor’s approach could negatively impact the APC’s prospects in future elections in the state.
Zam noted that Akume had been involved in efforts to resolve the situation.
Gololo’s call for intervention underscores the deepening political divisions within the APC in Benue State, with implications for the party’s unity and electoral prospects in the region.
