The National Vice Chairman (North East) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mustapha Salihu, has explained the reason behind the exclusion of Vice President Kashim Shettima from the recent endorsement of President Bola Tinubu for a second term.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, Salihu said that including Shettima in the endorsement would have prematurely suggested that President Tinubu had already selected his running mate for the 2027 presidential election.
“It would have been inappropriate to endorse the Vice President along with the President because it would pre-assume that he is the running mate,” Salihu stated.

The development followed the North-East APC stakeholders’ meeting held on Sunday in Gombe, where the region formally endorsed President Tinubu for re-election but conspicuously omitted Vice President Shettima from the endorsement list.
The exclusion has fueled fresh speculation about Shettima’s political future and his possible role in the 2027 elections.
