The All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticized the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for allegedly politicizing the recent stampedes at palliative distribution sites, which resulted in the deaths of several Nigerians in Oyo, Anambra, and the Federal Capital Territory.
In a statement released by its spokesman, Felix Morka, the APC described the PDP’s stance as “callous” and accused the opposition party of exploiting a national tragedy for political gain.
“At a time of national grief over the stampedes that claimed the lives of citizens, the PDP seized the moment to engage in callous political chicanery,” Morka said.

The APC spokesman recalled the 2014 recruitment exercise into the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) under the PDP administration, which ended in tragedy, leading to the deaths of several desperate job seekers.
He accused the PDP of hypocrisy, noting its failure to address its own history of poor governance.
“It is grossly indecent, insensitive, and despicable for the PDP to exploit these tragic incidents in a senseless attack against the administration that has devoted itself to fixing the ruins of nearly two decades of PDP administration,” Morka stated.
He emphasized that the recent tragedies had united Nigerians in mourning and reflection, while the APC remained focused on addressing the nation’s challenges.
“Our thoughts and prayers remain with the victims and their families.
The tragedies have brought together all well-meaning Nigerians in mourning and sober reflection on how the incidents might have been avoided through better planning and organization by all involved,” he added.
Morka criticized the PDP for failing to genuinely commiserate with the victims and instead using the incidents to blame the APC-led administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
InfoStride News reports that the stampedes occurred during the distribution of food items in Abuja, Anambra, and Ibadan, resulting in significant loss of life.
The APC reiterated its commitment to preventing such occurrences and supporting affected families.
