Some All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders claimed on Tuesday that the recent actions of Governor Godwin Obaseki and other leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) showed a panic mood in their camp ahead of the Edo State governorship election.
In a statement, the leaders accused Governor Obaseki, the PDP in the state, and its candidate, Asue Ighodalo, of sponsoring a campaign of calumny against the APC governorship candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo.
The APC Vanguard, a group comprising the leaders, stated that the PDP, Obaseki, and Ighodalo have become desperate over fears of suffering a humiliating defeat in the upcoming governorship polls.

The Network of Civil Society Organisations in Nigeria recently held a press conference and petitioned the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), among others, over claims that Okpebholo sprayed naira at a public function.
In a statement signed by the national coordinator of the Vanguard, David Osarobo, the leaders condemned what they termed as “desperate acts” by Obaseki and Ighodalo to tarnish Okpebholo’s image for political gain.
Osarobo said, “Godwin Obaseki, the crisis-ridden PDP, and their novice candidate, Ighodalo, have decided to resort to cheap blackmail.
They know they will lose the election, and they are jittery.”
He added, “In Edo State, the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led APC administration is working.
The Federal Government is reconstructing federal roads in Edo Central, Edo North, and Edo South. The APC-led Federal Government is planning to implement other social welfare programmes in Edo State.”
The leaders urged Edo people to support the APC and vote for Okpebholo as the next governor, emphasizing the need to liberate Edo State from what they described as “mini tyrants and economic scavengers.”
