The All Progressives Congress, APC, has disclosed that at least four incumbent governors elected on opposition platforms are in advanced discussions to defect to the ruling party before the end of 2025.
The party says the move is part of a broader political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.
APC National Vice Chairman (South-East), Dr. Ijeoma Arodiogbu, made the disclosure in an interview, naming the governors of Plateau, Taraba, Rivers and Abia States as those being targeted.

“It is a possibility that the Plateau governor will join us, likewise his Taraba counterpart. We are also looking forward to receiving Rivers governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and Governor Alex Otti of Abia State,” Arodiogbu said.
He noted that discussions with the affected governors were at an advanced stage and the defections could occur “in the coming weeks.”
“These are all high possibilities. We expect that to happen in the coming weeks before our congresses. Most of these defections are expected before the end of this year,” he added.
Arodiogbu said the anticipated defections would further solidify the APC’s status as the nation’s leading political platform.
He attributed the growing interest in the ruling party to what he described as its reform-driven governance approach and inclusive political philosophy under President Bola Tinubu.
“The APC has grown into a home for all progressives. Our growth isn’t just in numbers but also in the quality of leadership,” he said.
He added that the national chairman has maintained an open-door policy for new entrants, particularly those who support the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Arodiogbu expressed confidence that the defections would strengthen the APC ahead of its 2025 congresses and position the party favourably for the 2027 elections.
