The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, has declared that the party is determined to take over the leadership of Rivers State in future elections.
Ganduje made this assertion during the defection of Dawari Ibietela George, the 2023 governorship candidate of the Action Alliance (AA), to the APC.
He assured that the state chapter of the party would be “rebuilt and repositioned” to establish a firm political foothold.

The APC chairman emphasized the party’s strategy of welcoming diverse interests while promoting fairness among members.
He praised George’s political experience, referring to him as a “big fish,” and expressed confidence that his defection would bolster the party’s influence.
“Rivers State will be completely APC,” Ganduje declared, highlighting the importance of George’s inclusion in the party’s strategy for political dominance.
Ganduje further assured George that the APC would provide a robust structure to accommodate him and other returning members.
“You are now equal members with every other member of the party. We are committed to expanding democracy across the country,” he added.
The APC chairman’s statement comes amidst ongoing political tension between Governor Sim Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
Reports suggest that Wike has been linked with the former APC state chairman, Tony Okocha, despite Wike’s denial of any alliance.
Meanwhile, Okocha recently hinted that efforts would be made to undermine Governor Fubara’s administration ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
