Yusuf Sharada, an ally of Rabiu Kwankwaso, the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has revealed that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is making overtures to lure Kwankwaso into aligning with President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Sharada disclosed this on Tuesday while speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme.
He noted that the APC’s moves stem from its dwindling popularity in Kano State — a critical battleground with significant voting strength.

“They have been wooing Senator Kwankwaso to join them in the APC, knowing his antecedents and his mass followership. Of course, it is their political permutation,” Sharada said.
According to him, Kwankwaso has so far resisted overtures from the APC because he disagrees with the party’s style of governance.
“Senator Kwankwaso stayed away from the APC because he is not in tandem with what they are doing as a government. They have been insisting that they want him to join them. Politics is about numbers and they know that he has the numbers, especially from Kano and the core North-Western part of the country.”
Sharada, who is the National Coordinator of Project Save Nigeria, suggested that the recent resignation of Abdullahi Ganduje as APC National Chairman could be part of the ruling party’s broader strategy to attract Kwankwaso back into its fold.
“Maybe the APC has perfected their plans. They are looking for the numbers because of their anti-masses policies; the masses of Nigeria are no longer with them,” he said.
“So, they now want someone that the masses of this country have hope in to join them so that they have those numbers, especially from that part of the country.”
He further stressed that members of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Kwankwaso’s well-known socio-political base, remain loyal to him and will wait for his directive on where to pitch their tent in the 2027 presidential election.
