The Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kolapo Olusola gave the charge while commissioning some projects funded by the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) at Muslim College, Ado- Ekiti.
The Deputy Governor, who was represented by the Director of Press in his office, Mr. Oyetunde Oyebode said that government alone cannot provide all the infrastructures needed by the people because of its limited resources, hence the need for philanthropic organizations and individuals to complement the government’s spirited efforts to meet the yearnings of the people.
He commended the leadership of the school’s PTA for taking the initiative to provide the school with a befitting gate, security post and for starting the perimeter fencing of the school to keep off intruders, adding that these facilities will further enhance the security of the students and limit the activities of those who encroached on the school land.
Dr Olusola also admonished the teachers to show more commitment to their profession, saying that diligence and hard work on their part are very important if the government would achieve the much touted transformation in education.
He urged the teachers not to allow the two months’ salary arrears owed them by the previous administration dampen their morale to perform their duties as expected, with an assurance that Governor Ayodele Fayose is mindful of their plight and working hard to offset the outstanding salary soonest.
While commending the school principal, Mr Tanwa Oyebode for his ingenuity to coordinate and harness the meager resources for physical and structural development of the school, the Deputy Governor said that such achievements could be sustained through the cooperation of all the stakeholders in the school administration.
In his welcome address, the principal of the school, Mr Tanwa Oyebode said that the school lacked several facilities such as auditorium for examinations and mass gathering, health facility, security control post and perimeter fence.
Mr Oyebode said that the school has been able to put those facilities in place, some of which were billed, to be commissioned.
He explained that the work is still going on the auditorium and the perimeter fencing of the school, while a First Aid Office, Entrance gate and security post have been completed and ready for commissioning.
The principal who remarked that the location of the school exposed its students to a lot of dangers and distractions during their lessons appealed to the government to assist the school in the completion of the Examination Hall and the perimeter fence to ward off intruders and protect the students from avoidable hazards.
Also the school’s PTA Chairman, Mallam Yusuf Ibrahim, in his own address said that the 3 projects slated for commissioning cost the PTA a sum of #700,000 and appealed to the government to assist in the completion of other on-going projects in the school.
The climax of the event was the play-let titled “Wrong Turn” presented by the School Drama Group and was directed by a Youth Corps member, Mr. Kaka Benson.
