On Monday, the APGA leadership denounced the rising insecurity in the southeast region and urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to free Nnamdi Kanu.
Detained by the DSS for years now is Kanu, the national leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
In a statement released to the media in Abakaliki, the capital of Ebonyi State, APGA leadership blamed Kanu’s continued imprisonment for the region’s security situation. The statement was signed by APGA’s National Youth Leader, Eze Onyebuchi Chukwu.

“We appeal to President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to use his good office and effect the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu,” the statement says in part. For the sake of South Eastern Nigeria’s inhabitants, if for no other.
Perpetrators of the current violence in the South East blame the imprisonment of their leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. The release of their commander guarantees an end to their criminal activities.
Even the traditionally peaceful IPOB’s activities have been taken over by extremists. Terrorists in the South-East have used calls for Nnamdi Kanu’s release as cover to kill, abduct, and otherwise disrupt the region. He added, “Some politicians have used the unrest as cover to kill their political opponents.”
Young people are particularly vulnerable. Most recruiters target them. They need narcotics to function, and they’re actively involved in terrible acts of wrongdoing. The kids in this area are normalising drug misuse and trafficking, and the economy has been severely harmed, he said.
