The National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Sly Ezeokenwa, has explained the rationale behind the party’s alliance with President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Ezeokenwa made the disclosure during an interview on Arise Television on Monday, stating that the quest for an Igbo presidency cannot be achieved without a broad national alliance.

According to him, political realities in Nigeria make it difficult for any candidate from the South-East to secure the presidency without support from other regions.
He said, “An Igbo man on his own cannot really make the presidency without alliance with people either from the North or from the western region.”
The APGA chairman further noted that the party shares a common ideological foundation of “progressivism” with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“Political parties have what we call ideologies. If you go to the manifesto of APGA, you will see the ideology of APGA as a political party, and our ideology primarily is founded on progressivism, which is the ideology that we share with the APC,” he said.
Ezeokenwa added that the “Renewed Hope Agenda” of President Tinubu aligns with the manifestos of both APGA and the APC, stressing that their shared focus is on policies aimed at improving the welfare of Nigerians.
He said the party’s decision to align with the President is also influenced by Nigeria’s informal power rotation arrangement, which предусматриes the presidency rotating between the North and the South.
“Now, what we are going to do as a political party is that we align with Mr President, because we believe that based on the coalition or the accord that came into force before 1999 when we say that there is rotational presidency eight years for the North, eight years for the South,” he added.
