The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has said the party did not sack Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe or threaten to expel him, insisting that the lawmaker voluntarily resigned his membership.
The party also accused Abaribe of allegedly recruiting some former members of the party to fabricate a letter in the name of APGA to support his claim that he was expelled.
The position of the party was made known in a press statement issued by its spokesperson in Abia State, Chukwuemeka Nwokoro.

Nwokoro said Abaribe’s claim that he was sacked from the party was intended to justify what he described as the senator’s unwarranted resignation.
According to him, the party leadership in the state decided to inform the public, particularly Abia residents and the Senate, that it had become aware of alleged secret moves by Abaribe to recruit individuals who were no longer members of the party to produce a letter claiming he was expelled in September 2025.
“This move is intended to cover up the lies that he was sacked in September, which he told the Senate, with the intention of deceiving Senate members into accepting his unconstitutional defection to another party, knowing fully well that APGA has no element of crisis in any facet of the party’s leadership, the only basis for defection,” the statement read.
“Let it be known that Senator Abaribe was neither sacked nor expelled from the party. Senator Abaribe resigned from the party on December 30, 2025, and submitted his resignation letter to the Ahiaba Ward 5 chairman of Obingwa Local Government Area.”
Nwokoro argued that if Abaribe had indeed been expelled in September 2025 as claimed, he would not have submitted a resignation letter in December of the same year.
He added that the resignation contradicts the senator’s claim of expulsion.
“Any person expelled from a party is no longer a member of that party, but here, after three months of the purported sack, he filed a resignation letter. It is clear that APGA, as a national party, has neither problems nor crises anywhere in the country, let alone in the national leadership,” he said.
The spokesperson further alleged that the party had uncovered attempts by individuals recruited by Abaribe to produce a fake document to support the senator’s claim.
“Let it be known that all the secret moves by Senator Abaribe’s recruits over the past 48 hours have been uncovered. He promised them heavily if they could produce the fake document to enable him submit it to the Senate on Tuesday or Wednesday in defence of the lies he used to deceive the Senate,” the statement added.
Nwokoro warned those allegedly involved in the act to desist from any move capable of bringing embarrassment to the party, stating that they would face consequences if the actions continued.
