The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has announced plans to welcome two prominent South East governors, Peter Mbah of Enugu State and Alex Otti of Abia State, into its ranks as part of its ongoing efforts to reposition the party ahead of future elections.
The move comes amid a broader political realignment in the country, with a coalition of politicians from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP) recently crossing over to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to form an opposition alliance.
Speaking in Abuja, APGA’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Ejimofor Opara, disclosed that the decision to reach out to the governors was taken during the party’s 16th National Working Committee (NWC) meeting held at its national headquarters.

According to Opara, the Deputy National Chairman (South), Chief Uche Nwegbo, has been mandated to lead a high-powered delegation to begin talks with Governors Mbah and Otti.
“The National Working Committee’s decision is a testament to APGA’s commitment to building a stronger, more inclusive platform for progressive governance in Nigeria,” Opara said.
He noted that the resolution followed a motion moved by the Party’s Vice Chairman (Southeast), Rev. Augustine Ehiemere, who argued that the current political climate makes it imperative for APGA to consolidate its base in the South East.
“APGA is known for its commitment to the welfare of the poor and vulnerable and remains steadfast in its mission to leave no one behind,” Opara added. “The Party’s leadership believes that the inclusion of these governors will further strengthen its resolve to make a positive impact on the lives of Nigerians.”
If successful, the move could significantly boost APGA’s influence in the region as parties and coalitions jostle for strategic positioning ahead of the 2027 general elections.
