The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has rejected the outcome of the recent local government chairmanship and councillorship elections, pledging to challenge the results in court.
APGA State Chairman, Onuoha Egbe Benon, made the party’s stance clear during a press briefing on Tuesday, alleging that the results announced by the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC) did not reflect the actual votes cast.
Benon claimed APGA had evidence indicating that its candidates won the elections but were denied victory.
He stated that the party’s decision to pursue legal action followed a thorough review of the election process and extensive feedback, concluding that the elections were neither free nor fair as presented by ABSIEC.
“We intend to seek redress, which is the usual course of action after elections. That is the position of our party,” Benon declared.
“We are going to court to reclaim our mandate because we have clear evidence of winning both the LGA chairmanship and councillorship.”
The APGA chairman further alleged that results were announced prematurely, while collation was still ongoing, and accused ABSIEC of under-declaring votes for APGA candidates.
Benon emphasized that APGA remains committed to securing justice for what it believes was an unfair process, asserting that the party’s supporters deserve transparency and a fair representation of their votes.
