The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has secured a sweeping victory in the September 28 local government elections in Anambra State, winning all chairmanship and councillorship positions across the 21 local government areas of the state.
The results were announced by the Chairman of the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC), Genevieve Osakwe, at the commission’s headquarters in Awka.
Osakwe declared the election free, fair, and credible, stating that the results had been meticulously collated and analysed to avoid any errors.
In her statement, Osakwe noted that no opposition candidates, political parties, or their agents were present at the ANSIEC office during the declaration of the results.
Despite their absence, she praised the people of Anambra for their active participation in the electoral process.
“This is to affirm the result of the chairmanship and councillorship election held on September 28, 2024.
The commission carefully collated and analysed the results to ensure that there were no mistakes,” Osakwe said.
She also commended the security agencies for maintaining peace and order during the elections.
“The people of Anambra trooped out en masse to exercise their civic rights, and I appreciate the security forces for their efforts in ensuring a smooth and peaceful election process,” she added.
Osakwe reiterated that the results from all polling units were accurately recorded and announced, reinforcing the credibility of the election.
“We are here today to affirm the results as recorded. Election held at all the polling units across Anambra State on September 28, and it was free, fair, and credible,” she concluded.
The landslide victory solidifies APGA’s dominance in Anambra State, as the party continues to maintain control over local government administration.
