The freedom of Nollywood actress, Ibinabo Fiberesima is hanging in the balance.
The Lagos State Court of Appeal has reserved judgement in the appeal filed by the actress regarding her five years sentencing in the death of Dr. Giwa Suraj.
She was sentenced for the five years jail term by Justice Deborah Oluwayemi of a Lagos State High Court for reckless driving which led to the death of Dr. Giwa Suraj along the Lekki-Epe expressway, Lagos on February 26th 2006.
The actress, as her response to the ruling filed an appeal through her counsel, challenging the decision of the court.
She wants the court to reverse the N100, 000 fine it has ruled on, with an exemption of incarceration.
Her move prompted the Lagos State government to take the further to the High Court, which took the decision to sentence Ibinabo to 5 years imprisonment.
Presided by Justice Ndukwe-Anyanwu, a hearing designed to appeal against the judgement was held yesterday, January 28, 2016.
After the counsel adopted their written addresses, the Appeal Court maintained a taciturn approach and instructed that the defendant, who was not present at the time of the court session be present on the day of judgement.
