The police on Monday put 259 specially designated “Safer Highway Patrol Vehicles” to work nationwide. They are to replace the road blocks abrogated by the new Inspector General of Police Solomon Arase.
Arase launched the 259 patrol vehicles at the Force headquarters. He said they have been customised to specific states.
He added that special code numbers would be inscribed on each vehicle with facility to monitor their deployment, adding that the special squad trained to man such vehicles were not permitted to cross their designated areas of surveillance.
The IGP said he aimed to ensure that the Nigerian police was seen as the “best police” in the world. As part of plans to make this a reality, Arase said he has launched a website through which members of the public can make instant complaint against observed violations by the policemen. However, he appealed that such “complaints would be factual and I would appreciate if they can be supported with pictures or other evidence”.
Nigerians can register complaints on police misconduct via www.stopthebribes.net
