Asante Kotoko has wrapped up the 2013/2014 Ghana Premier League title with two games remaining.
The Porcupine Warriors made it a hat-trick of league triumphs after a 2-1 win over regional rivals, Edubiase United on Wednesday (21 May 2014). Leading marksman Seidu Bancey and Prince Baffoe scored for Kotoko whilst Emmanuel Nti Mensah grabbed a late consolation for the hosts.
By the victory, Kotoko moves to 54 points, seven points richer than second-placed Heart of Lions, who beat Amidaus Professionals 3-1 in the Ghanaian port city of Tema. The outcome of the two games will make no impact at the standings at the top.
The triumph is title number 23 for the two-time continental champions, three more than the haul of bitterest rivals, Hearts of Oak, perched on third position and 10-point adrift the leaders.
The Porcupine Warriors will be seeking to celebrate the title in derby clash on Sunday, 1 June 2014 against Hearts of Oak at their favourite Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.
Kotoko will represent Ghana for the third time in next year’s CAF Champions League.
