Ex Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has blasted the suspension of AIT and RayPower FM broadcast licence by National Broadcasting Commission (NBC).
Atiku revealed this in a statement by his Media Adviser, Mr Paul Ibe yesterday.
He said that the suspension of the licenses of the DAAR Group and the closing down of its stations shows the incredible anti-media plan to take out critical voices in Nigeria.
He shared that any scenario where the media are not allowed to openly criticize the government is a massive risk to Nigeria’s democracy.
His words, “If the press is not free, the situation will inevitably lead to dictatorship and endanger Nigerians’ struggles to entrench democracy in the country,”
“Dictators want to be worshipped rather than being criticised and held accountable for non-performance or actions. That is why they find democratic order an inconvenience to their sinister desires to kill free speech.”
He disclosed that if the citizens did not defend free speech and free press, their personal freedoms might be thrown in the dustbin by the government in power.
