Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has expressed deep sorrow over the recent attacks on communities in Niger State that reportedly claimed at least 30 lives, with several others abducted.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Atiku described the attacks as heinous and brazen, condemning the brutality unleashed on defenceless communities and stressing that such acts are unacceptable.

He noted that the primary responsibility of any government is the protection of lives and property, urging authorities to strengthen security measures, restore public confidence in affected areas and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.
The former vice president’s reaction comes amid growing concerns over the surge in violent attacks in Niger State and other parts of the country, underscoring the urgent need for coordinated and effective security responses to protect vulnerable communities.
DAILY POST reports that no fewer than 30 people were feared killed, while many others were kidnapped, when armed men suspected to be bandits attacked communities in the Agwarra and Borgu Local Government Areas of Niger State.
“I am deeply saddened by the heinous attacks on communities in Agwarra and Borgu Local Government Areas of Niger State, which have led to the loss of scores of innocent lives and the abduction of several residents, including schoolchildren,” Atiku said.
He extended his condolences to the bereaved families and expressed solidarity with the people and government of Niger State during what he described as a painful period.
“My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the deceased, those abducted, particularly the children, and I urge the relevant authorities to act swiftly to secure their safe and unconditional release,” he added.
