The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has picked former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election.
The immediate past chairman of the ADC in Rivers State, Leader Sampson, confirmed the development to Newsmen on Saturday.
Amaechi had contested the party’s presidential primary election but lost to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who emerged as the party’s flag bearer.

Before the primary election, Amaechi had maintained that he did not purchase the ADC presidential nomination form with the intention of later accepting the position of vice president.
Following the primary, the former Rivers State governor rejected the outcome of the exercise, amid allegations by some aggrieved party members that the process was manipulated in favour of Atiku.
However, when asked whether Amaechi had accepted the offer to serve as Atiku’s running mate, Sampson simply responded in the affirmative.
“Yes,” he said.
The development is expected to reshape the political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections, as the ADC prepares to challenge other major political parties at the polls.
