Umar Ardo, who was formerly the Special Adviser to Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar in 2023, has made the suggestion that the party may eject the former Vice President.
Ardo has suggested that Atiku could lose his membership in the PDP if he does not abandon his plans to run for president.
He made the comment while pointing out that PDP governors had already rejected Atiku as their candidate.
You may recall that Atiku had voiced his disagreement with the decision of the Supreme Court, which had declared President Bola Tinubu the victor of the presidential election held in February.
Atiku had pledged that he would not step down from his position despite the fact that “this aspect of the job is done.”
Tinubu’s involvement in the political issue in Rivers State led to the PDP Governors Forum making a commitment to collaborate with him following his intervention in the situation.
After mediating the dispute between the Governor of Rivers State and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, the Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, Bala Mohammed, revealed this information. Bala Mohammed’s intervention in the conflict allowed him to make this revelation.
However, according to a statement released by Ardo, the fact that PDP governors have stated that they are willing to collaborate with President Bola Tinubu demonstrates that they have distanced themselves from Atiku.
In the words of Ardo, “Reading through Atiku’s last Monday’s press conference regarding the outcome of the Supreme Court’s judgment and his position towards President Bola Tinubu’s Presidency vis-à-vis the following day’s communique of the PDP Governor’s Forum after its meeting at the Oyo State’s Governor’s Lodge, it’s obvious that the honeymoon between the party’s 2023 presidential candidate and its governors is now over.”
“In a separate address to the press that followed the statement, the chairman of the forum, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, praised the leadership skills of President Tinubu and reaffirmed that the PDP governors are ready to cooperate, support, and work with the federal administration that he leads.
“There is nothing else that can be more explicit in illustrating the two going on their different and separate ways more than this,” she said. “Nothing else can be more explicit.”
“With these contradictory stances, it’s simply a matter of time (and in the not too distant future), for the inevitable implosion to happen, and either Atiku steps down his presidential ambitions or leaves the PDP, or he’ll be ejected from the party! This is what I see when I look into the political crystal ball.
