Tottenham Hotspur brought an end to a run of three successive defeats as they won 2-1 at Brighton on a damp Saturday evening on the south coast. Harry Kane gave the Londoners the lead from the penalty spot shortly before half time, and substitute Erik Lamela sealed the points inside the final 15 minutes before Anthony Konackaert’s late response. Kieran Trippier was at the heart of much of Spurs’ early attacking intent and was behind the move from which they almost took a 10th-minute lead. The chance came when Trippier whipped in a corner that was headed on by Toby…

It’s not cool,…

Brazilian Joelinton put the hosts ahead on the stroke of halftime and Hoffenheim looked to be cruising after having two other efforts disallowed and also hitting the woodwork. Things turned worse for the visitors when Diallo was sent off for a last-man foul on Andrej Kramaric but Pulisic…

It was debatable what was more worrying at Old Trafford on Saturday: Manchester United’s draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers or the reasoning Jose Mourinho gave afterwards for the result. “It is the basic law of football,” said Mourinho. “Something you learn in the academy.” He is right, and it does not bode well, especially as everything seems to be coming so easily to everyone else. While United were struggling against the Premier League newcomers, Manchester City were putting five past Cardiff. At the same time, Liverpool were beating Southampton 3-0. The gap between United and the top is already eight points.…
