The Nigerian Government has directed the Vice Chancellors of federal universities under siege by the current strike action of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to immediately re-open for academic and allied activities. The wife of Nigerian President, Patience Jonathan has advised the nation’s youth to take advantage of the knowledge and wisdom of respected elders as role models and emulate their sterling virtues.

She made the remark on Saturday November 15, 2013 at the funeral service of Late Okoronkwo Ezekiel Ihejirika which took place in Ovim, Abia State; saying he was a disciplinarian, community leader, bridge builder, lover of peace, man of great wisdom and humility.

The First Lady particularly eulogised late Ihejirika’s great sense of enterprise as well as his visionary qualities and observed that he lived a very successful life, leaving behind him enviable legacies. She offered prayers to God for the family of the deceased as well as the community.

In his remarks on the occasion, President Goodluck Jonathan paid glowing tribute to late Okoronkwo Ihejirika. The President who was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Pius Ayim Pius affirmed that during his lifetime the late Ihejirika was dedicated to the service of his community and humanity.

Speaking earlier, the Governor of Abia State, Theodore Orji noted that Abia State joins the people of Elu Obayi, Ovim in Isuikwuato Local Government Area to mourn and celebrate a great patriarch from a renown linage. The funeral was attended by dignitaries and people in and outside Ovim community.
