In fulfillment of Governor Abiola Ajimobi’s earlier promise, a new pedestrian bridge has been constructed on the Apete River and opened for public use. The Oyo State Commissioner for Works, Mr. Bimbo Kolade told newsmen shortly after inspecting the bridge that the newly-constructed bridge would be restricted to vehicular activities. The commissioner explained that though the bridge was solid enough for vehicular activities, it would only be used by pedestrians, for now, to give room for the continuation of the main bridge. The Oyo State Government has attributed the delay in the completion of Apete Bridge in Ibadan within the record time to the weather and climatic conditions of 2013, as well as other factors like design revisions and alterations of the project. It also promised to complete the reconstruction of another pedestrian bridge to replace the collapsed one at Apete Bridge within the next 10 days, even as it said that the bridge under construction would be made passable to pedestrians by September 2014.
