Segun Oni Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has restored the privileges of former Governor, Ousegun Oni which were stri*ped by his predecessor, Kayode Fayemi. Oni was removed from office through the Court of Appeal judgment which declared Fayemi winner of the April 2007 polls. The Appeal Court upturned the decision of the lower tribunal. A civil society group, Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP), has called on the chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Mr. Ekpo Nta, to investigate allegations of corruption in Lagos State councils. The petition followed a government audit of 57 councils in Lagos State, which allegedly indicted eight councils of stealing and mismanagement of about N224 million of public funds. No fewer than 30 suspected members of Boko Haram were Thursday, killed by the Civilian JTF in Gubio Local Government Area of Borno State. This came as Boko Haram members attempted to lay siege on the Borno town. Five members of the Civilian JTF were said to have sustained minor injuries. The Senate has dismissed the allegation by former President Olusegun Obasanjo that the National Assembly was using constituency projects to siphon public funds. The upper House said Obasanjo’s claim was aimed at denigrating the sanctity of the parliament. The Nigeria Police High Command has described recent media reports that it mishandled the prosecution of Nyanya bombing suspect, Aminu Ogwuche. A Federal High Court in Abuja had earlier in the week struck out the case against the suspect for lack of diligent prosecution by the police.
